If you like the color she’s using in this tutorial, it’s Sherwin Williams “Interesting Aqua”…very similar to Annie Sloan’s “Duck Egg Blue”. Her favorite recipe is the one with the calcium carbonate. The fourth recipe she’s using baking soda, latex paint, no water. Keep in mind that the grout mixture sets up way too fast, so you may want to choose another one of these recipes because you don’t have too long to work with it. The third recipe consists of sanded grout, latex paint and a little bit of water. This will be smoother than the calcium carbonate mixture. Mix that with just a squirt of water, 1/2 cup of latex paint, 1/4 cup of plaster of paris. Thoroughly mix 1/8 cup of Plaster of Paris with 1/8 cup of water (I use a blender just because my plaster is a little old and chunky) Stir in 1/4 cup of craft paint until thoroughly mixed I then taped off the stripe design that I wanted: It took three coats of the DIY Chalk Paint from Craft Paint I gave a very light sanding between each coat. The next recipe requires plaster of paris and a large container at Hobby Lobby is $2.99. With this recipe you mix 2 parts latex paint to 1 part calcium carbonate (for example: 1/2 cup latex paint to 1/4 cup Calcium Carbonate). You can go to some of your bigger pharmacies and have them order it or you can order it online, but you’ll have that waiting time, so if it’s something you want to do fast, choose one of these other recipes. The first recipe she uses Calcium Carbonate, which is not that easy to find, although it does have a very good shelf life. For instance, Annie’s Sloan’s Chalk paint costs $34.99 per quart and $170 a gallon! This is why you’re gonna want to make your own! I’m so excited to get my hands on this tutorial that shows you four different recipes for making this fabulous paint, so you will have some options.
